President invites Sheikh Hasina to form government

President M. Shahabuddin has extended an invitation to Awami League President Sheikh Hasina to form the government following the landslide victory in the twelfth National Parliament election.

As per the provisions of Article 56 of the Constitution of Bangladesh, the President has invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the leader of the largest party in the current eleventh parliament, to form the new government.


After the meeting, the Press Secretary to the President, Joynal Abedin, briefed the media, conveying heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for achieving an uncontested victory in the twelfth National Parliament election. He remarked that the people have expressed their support for independence, the spirit of the Liberation War, and progress in development through this election.

President Shahabuddin emphasized that the success of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership would lead Bangladesh to the realization of the dream of a Golden Bengal and the transformation into a Smart Bangladesh. He wished the Prime Minister continued success in her overall endeavors.


In response, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed gratitude to the people for the overwhelming victory of the Awami League in the twelfth National Parliament election. She pledged to work for the betterment and progress of the country.


Earlier in the day, at 5:05 pm, President Shahabuddin and the First Lady, Dr. Rebeca Sultanah, welcomed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with a flower bouquet upon her arrival at Bangabhaban. In return, the Prime Minister also presented a bouquet to the President and his wife.


Ministers, the Cabinet Secretary, and other officials from the offices of the President and the Prime Minister were present during the meeting.
