Hundreds of thousands of individuals gathered at the venue to express their support for the Awami League as the party leader and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched the election campaign amidst a festive atmosphere in Sylhet. Amidst the enthusiastic cheers and applause of the crowd, the AL president, accompanied by her sister Sheikh Rehana, took the stage, proudly waving the national flag of Bangladesh, while party activists chanted "Joy Bangla" at Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa this afternoon. Earlier in the day, Sheikh Hasina engaged with reporters after visiting Hazrat Shahjalal's shrine in Sylhet, where she affirmed the constitutional right of citizens to vote and stressed that no one should hinder or harm others in the exercise of their voting rights.
This visit to Sylhet marks the commencement of her election campaign as the nation prepares for the 12th parliamentary election scheduled for January 7, 2024.
In a morning conversation with reporters, the prime minister reflected on the Awami League's electoral victories in 2009, 2014, and 2018, attributing them to the party's commitment to meeting the fundamental needs of the people. She also criticized the BNP-Jamaat coalition, accusing them of inciting a wave of terrorist and militant activities against the country's citizens with the aim of disrupting the upcoming national election.
Emphasizing Bangladesh's rejection of all forms of militant and terrorist acts, the prime minister expressed confidence that the people of Bangladesh would ultimately reject those responsible for such actions. She issued a stern warning to the perpetrators of a recent arson attack and pledged decisive action to address the issue.
