The newly elected Members of Parliament took their oaths at the Parliament House.

The newly elected members of the twelfth National Parliament took their oaths as parliamentarians. On Wednesday morning, Speaker Shirin Sharmin took the oath herself first, followed by administering the oath to the newly elected members. At this time, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, along with the newly elected members, stood to recite the oath and sign.

Yesterday, the Election Commission published the results of the twelfth National Parliament election in the form of a gazette. According to the constitution, parliamentarians are required to take their oaths within three days of the publication of the gazette. After taking the oath, they are considered to have assumed office.


It's worth mentioning that the nationwide election was held on January 7th, where a total of 299 seats were contested. The Election Commission declared the results for 298 seats. According to the list provided by the Commission, among the participating political parties, the Awami League secured victory with 222 seats, gaining an absolute majority. In addition to the major parties, the Workers Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), and Kalyan Party each secured one seat. Independent candidates won in 62 constituencies.
