A Japan Airlines plane caught fire upon landing on a runway at Tokyo's Haneda airport on Tuesday evening. Video footage from broadcaster NHK revealed flames emerging from the aircraft's windows and beneath it, with the runway also ablaze. The incident occurred when the plane, originating from Sapporo, collided with a coast guard plane, according to NHK, citing authorities.
All 379 passengers and crew aboard were successfully evacuated, as reported by the airline. An NHK report quoted the airline stating, "We are currently assessing the extent of the damage."
The aircraft, identified as Japan Airlines Flight 516, had departed from New Chitose airport at 16:00 local time (07:00 GMT) and was scheduled to land at Haneda at 17:40. TV footage depicted multiple fire trucks on the scene, combating smoke and flames emanating from the plane.
