Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the woman who collaborated in the murder of her abusive mother, is anticipated to be released from prison on Thursday. The Missouri Department of Corrections granted parole to Blanchard, 32, earlier this year, and she will exit the Chillicothe Correctional Center in northern Missouri.
Following her release, Blanchard expressed her desire to meet Taylor Swift, whom she finds inspiring, and mentioned she has tickets to a Kansas City Chiefs game on New Year’s Eve, hoping to encounter her idol at Arrowhead Stadium.
Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in July 2016 in connection to her mother Dee Dee Blanchard's death and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. She testified in court that her mother had forced her to feign disability, undergo unnecessary medical tests, and orchestrated her killing, detailing plans involving poison, arson, or a gun.
Investigations revealed that Dee Dee Blanchard, who used her daughter as a disabled poster child, had Munchausen by proxy, a form of abuse where a guardian fabricates illnesses in a child for attention. Gypsy Blanchard's case garnered national attention and inspired documentaries and series like HBO's "Mommy Dead and Dearest" and Hulu's "The Act."
After having her story portrayed by others, Gypsy Blanchard is set to release an eBook titled "Released" on Jan. 9, featuring interview transcripts and journal entries to share her perspective. She will also appear in Lifetime’s upcoming docuseries "The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard," premiering on Jan. 5.
In a recent interview, Gypsy Blanchard expressed regret for her role in her mother's death, acknowledging desperation to escape the abusive situation. She reflected on the importance of confiding in extended family or contacting the police to seek help.
