On Sunday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina emphasized that no one will be allowed to exploit violence, particularly by burning people, and disrupt elections in Bangladesh.
During an exchange of greetings with the Christian community at her official residence, Ganabhaban, in preparation for Christmas Day on December 25, the Prime Minister firmly stated, “It won’t be allowed on the soil of Bangla that they gain advantage by burning people and stopping the election.”
She condemned the perpetrators of arson violence, describing the act of burning people alive as a grave sin unacceptable by any religion. Sheikh Hasina urged that those seeking public support should present their commitments to the masses for the welfare and development of the people rather than resorting to violence.
Addressing the unfortunate situation in Palestine, the birthplace of Jesus Christ, she expressed dismay at the ongoing violent attacks, including assaults on hospitals, sparing no one, including infants and women.
Turning her attention to Bangladesh, Prime Minister Hasina lamented the existence of individuals in the country resorting to arson violence to achieve political goals. She criticized their destructive actions, such as uprooting rail tracks and setting train coaches on fire to cause harm and loss of life. Questioning the motive behind such violence, she stressed the importance of conveying ideologies and political programs directly to the people.
Expressing her concern about recent incidents, including the burning of a mother and a baby in a train fire, the Prime Minister urged an end to such violence. She questioned the gains made by harming and burning people alive for political objectives, emphasizing the need for the cessation of such destructive practices.
Sheikh Hasina extended Christmas greetings to the Christian community, and the event featured performances of Christmas carols and patriotic songs by community members. Archbishop of Dhaka Archdiocese Bejoy Nicephorus D'Cruze and President of Bangladesh Christian Association Nirmal Rozario jointly presented a Christmas greeting card to the Prime Minister.
During the event, the Prime Minister cut a Christmas Day cake, and several dignitaries, including State Minister for Religious Affairs Faridul Haque Khan, Vice President of Bangladesh Christian Association Jewel Aarong, MP, and others, shared their thoughts on the occasion.
